The other night as Duane and I watching TV, a commercial for a jewelry store came on. It was about two couples dancing in a ballroom dance competition. The one lady dancer had on a beautiful diamond bracelet. The other lady dancer looked over, saw it and said, "That is a beautiful bracelet!" The owner of the bracelet replied, "Thank you. He went to Jared." (This was obviously the name of their jeweler). Then again, as the first couple danced by the judge’s table, the judge remarked on the beautiful bracelet, to which she again replied, "Thank you. He went to Jared."

By the end of the commercial I was really tired of hearing about this Jared. But what I did find fascinating was the fact that the dancers were able to dance and talk at the same time!

For those of you who don’t know, I am not a dancer. I love music, and ironically have a good sense of rhythm, but when I get out on a dance floor I feel like the old story about the monkey and a typewriter. If you let the monkey type long enough, the monkey might actually type a real word. If you let me move around long enough, I might actually dance a real dance step.

What is even funnier is that I was actually a member of a girl’s drill team in high school. Let me assure you, for me, it was work! I never got to the point where I could perform without constantly having to think ahead to what the next step was going to be. I’m sure I must have looked stiff and uncomfortable – because I was!!

It stands to reason then that I am in awe of those who are blessed with the ability to not only glide across the floor, but to move so naturally that they do not have to focus on their feet, but the conversation they are having with their partner.

Needless to say, until I go home to be with Jesus, my "dancing before the Lord" is just that – just before the Lord and no one else!! Until then I can enjoy another "type" of dancing. A friend received the following in an email and thought I would enjoy it. The author is unknown, but I wanted to share it with you as well.

When I meditated on the word Guidance,
I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word.
I remembered reading that doing God’s will is a lot like dancing.
When two people try to lead, nothing feels right.
The movement doesn’t flow with the music,
and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.
When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead,
both bodies begin to flow with the music.
One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back
or by pressing lightly in one direction or another.
It’s as it two become one body, moving beautifully.
The dance takes surrender, willingness,
and attentiveness from one person
and gentle guidance and skill from the other.

When I saw "G" I thought of God, followed by "u" and "i."
"God"-u-i-dance
God – you and I dance

Are we willing to trust God for His guidance in our lives? Are we willing to allow Him to "take the lead? When we let Him be Lord, our life will flow. We’re not out there flopping around, hoping that if we try hard enough, we may actually make a right move.  We won't have to be concentrating on the next step.  Instead we can be focusing on Jesus and what He is speaking to us.

Now that's a dance even I can do!
