Love to Eat/Hate to Eat*
by Elyse Fitzpatrick
(Review submitted by Tanya Ross) |
Now that this is a new year, did
you make any New Year's resolutions? Do you hope and pray that this
will be the year you will lose those extra pounds? Well, for all who
struggle with food, this book is for you.
Elyse goes right to God's word. She talks to women who over eat, under
eat or stop eating. We have the same thing in common" we let
food rule over us and make it a god. I love to eat because God gave us
that ability for refueling our bodies. I hate to eat because I let it
rule over me.
This book is not about a diet.
She talks about relying on the Holy Spirit as your stomach and your
protector. She pulls God's directions for food right from His Word.
I found this book comforting,
learning that God never intended us to diet, but just to obey His Word and
use moderation. So, what is stopping you? Don't you want to
become a person who has DISCIPLINED eating?

Surrender, The Heart God
Controls*
by Nancy Leigh DeMoss
(Review submitted by Tanya Ross) |
|
Have you been struggling
with giving up control? Have you wondered if, by
given up this control, you would feel a freedom in
Christ? Well, I have the answer to both: yes!
Nancy takes you down a road
that you will never want to turn away from. She is
a wonderful encourager and uses testimonies from other
Christian leaders. I was extremely encouraged and
really ready to give it all.
If you are questioning a
deeper faith with the Lord, of course, read your Bible
and pray. But if you need a little insight insight
and encouragement, read this book!

The Heartache No One Sees*
by Sheila Walsh
(Review submitted by Dede Kelley) |
|
The
Heartache No One Sees explores thoughts, actions and
attitudes that keep us from realizing the fullness of
joy that Jesus wants us to have. Walsh uses
"application points" that help us think through the
things that hold us back from the freedom we should have
in Christ. Her ideas are supported by Scripture
references. Also included are questions and a
Bible study in the back of the book.
Walsh
includes prayers relevant to the area of struggle
addressed in each chapter. She brings out barriers
that stand between us and the walk with Christ that we
deeply desire. Some of these barriers include
shame, bitterness, depression, circumstances,
self-criticism, the lies of the enemy, and finding our
joy and strength everywhere BUT in Christ.
It is a
good idea to have a journal to write your responses to
the "application points" and Bible study questions.
The following is a quote that I found encouraging: "Our
very wounds, when offered to Christ, become beacons to
hope to others. When you have had your heart
broken, you understand what it is like to suffer, to
feel despair. You recognize that 'drowning' look
in the eyes of someone else."

Evidence Not Seen*
by Darlene Deibler Rose
(Review submitted by Tanya Ross) |
Darlene grew up
in Boone, Iowa in the 1920s. She met and married a
missionary named Russell Deibler in 1937. They headed off
for New Guinea, and the next thing you know the Japanese were
taking over the island. Darlene found herself in a
concentration camp separated from her husband.
This is a true story; this woman
endured suffering we could only image. I highly recommend
this book because of her knowledge of God's Word.
This book will make you think about your steps with our Holy
Father. |
